Review of the ‘Magical Fireworks’

We were very surprised to be at Disneyland the night of the first soft-opening of ‘Magical’, Disneyland ’s new Summer Nightastic Fireworks show. The new soundtrack includes songs from Mary Poppins (my personal favorite), Peter Pan and Pinocchio as well as some original music made just for this production. Nothing was more surprising (without giving too much away) as Dumbo the Flying Elephant! It truly brought out the ooohs and awws from the crowd as well as a few tears from the die-hard Disney Fans (OK, so I admit it!). This is truly a must see and something I hope Disneyland includes in all of its future Fireworks shows.

Review of the Celebration Roundup and Barbecue

I had not celebrated my birthday at Disneyland, and so I decided to celebrate it by having lunch at the Celebration Roundup & Barbecue at the Big Thunder Ranch.  I made my priority seating arrangements, and arrived at 12:50, right on time.  I checked in, waited about 5 minutes, and was escorted to Jessie, who was waiting to take a picture with me .Once our picture was taken, I was seated at a picnic table. Eight can easily sit at the table.

Right away, I noticed that there was a singing cowboy going from table to table, and he was joined by Miss Chris who runs the ranch and whose recipes are used for the meals.

My server was Phil, and he was welcoming and very accommodating. In fact, everyone was very welcoming, and wished me happy birthday.  They had great attitudes throughout.

In addition to interacting with the guests, Miss Chris got up on stage and did some shows with Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye, joined by a piano player and guitar player at different times.  Servers would take "telegrams" up to Miss Chris, and she would announce various birthdays and other celebrations.  She later sang a song and incorporated everyone who had been greeted, by name, into the song wishing them happy birthday, happy anniversary, and other things, including first visit, just engaged, and even lost a tooth.  It was very fun.

The food was really good, and although it is not advertised, it is all you can eat.  There was no way I could eat all of the food in front of me. I was served two ribs, two pieces of chicken, baked beans, cole slaw with a tangy sauce, corn on the cob cut like "wagon wheels," and corn bread.  I also had a bucket with tongs, towlets, a small server of bbq sauce, and butter.  For dessert  there are four waffle cone cupcake treats.  The waffle cone is filled with flavored cream, then there is a cupcake on top, and topped with frosting.  Phil made me take two cupcakes, and I had the red velvet and the chocolate mousse.  They were delicious.  I couldn't eat them all because I was so full from dinner.
