Located right on Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland Park, sits one of the best restaurants on property – the Carnation Café. Nowhere else can you sit under an umbrella at a carnation-adorned table and enjoy the sights and sounds of Main Street. I have eaten lunch at the restaurant before, but a recent vlog by Ryno Clavin persuaded me to try the restaurant’s breakfast fare. Here are all the reasons I loved my breakfast at the Carnation Café!
I think if I would have been served bad food, I still might have enjoyed my breakfast just because of Main Street. I loved looking out over the busy street while I ate my pancakes. My husband and I went just before the Halloween season, so we could enjoy all the Mickey pumpkins and fall decorations. Sitting there, we noticed so many more details than if we had just been walking through. The best part, however, was when the Dapper Dans, Disneyland’s barbershop quartet, came through and performed a mini concert right in front of us. What a treat! Later, they came by again singing on a bicycle built for four!
All the Carnations
The restaurant is appropriately named. There are red carnations everywhere! The waiters and waitresses wear them on their uniforms. In the outside dining area, you will find real carnations and decorative carnations on your table. Inside the restaurant’s indoor seating area, carnations sit in vases on the tables and garnish the chandeliers hanging over your head. All the carnations are also appropriate as the outdoor seating area was once a flower market.
The breakfast food is delicious! Thanks to Ryno’s vlog, I decided to order the Apple-Granola Pancakes. These pancakes are topped with roasted cinnamon apple and granola and are served with your choice of hickory-smoked bacon or sausage links. I chose the bacon. This was by far my best breakfast of the week! I absolutely loved the apple and granola topping. My husband ordered Country-fried Steak and Eggs, and he really enjoyed his breakfast too. His entrée was topped with country gravy and served with two eggs, café breakfast potatoes, and toast. Other breakfast options include Oscars’s Choice: All-American Breakfast, Classic Eggs Benedict, Ham and Cheese Omelet, Steel-cut Oatmeal, Fruit Parfait, Spinach and Tomato-Egg White Frittata, and everyone’s favorite – Mickey-shaped Waffle.
Even though it has changed throughout the years, the Carnation Café was present on Main Street on July 17, 1955 when the park opened. Originally, it was the Carnation Café Ice Cream Parlor named after the Carnation Company. After Nestle bought the Carnation Company in 1985, the Carnation Café Ice Cream Parlor closed its doors in 1997, the space was remodeled, and the café reopened as a full-service restaurant. If you eat at the café for lunch or dinner, you can even order some of Walt Disney’s favorite dishes!
Go ahead. Treat yourself to a delicious breakfast right on Main Street. Maybe, the Dapper Dans will even serenade you while you eat your pancakes!
