Limited Time Magic at Walt Disney World

The Disney theme parks have announced the theme of their celebration for 2013: 52 Weeks of "Limited Time Magic." The idea is that "unexpected experiences with an extra sprinkle of Pixie Dust" will show up randomly at the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, and then will disappear when the next experience pops up. The announcement was made with Mickey Mouse unveiling a three-story ice castle made of 45,000 pounds of ice, built overnight in New York City's Times Square. Due to warm temperatures, the ice castle was only visible for a "limited time."

Below, find out about the Limited Time Magic that has already happened at Walt Disney World, as well as some planned for the rest of the year.  Events will be added as details are announced, but since they are surprises, not all events are known in advance.

Year of the Ear

This is a celebration of new hats released each month honoring a variety of styles, characters, and themes.  New limited-release Disney Ear Hats will be available each month as a part of the celebration. Holidays, cultures, life milestones, and more will be honored through the series. While some of the designs are basic, others will be elaborately decorated using sequins, embroidery, feathers, and more. A limited quantity of each style will be sold. The hats will be available in stores across the Walt Disney World property. Along with the Ear Hats, Disney is alluding to additional styles of the new MouskeEars collectibles becoming available.

 

Bling in the New Year - December 30, 2012-January 5, 2013

There will be live entertainment on Rockettower Plaza Stage, including music and Disney characters!  Count down to New Year's every hour up until midnight!

Classic Disney characters will be out at the Magic Kingdom!  The list will include such favorites as Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, Robin Hood, Friar Tuck, and even The Three Little Pigs!  Keep your eyes peeled, because you never know who could show up!

Choose 2014 Disney Art Design - January 25-31, 2013

The Disney Parks Blog asked readers to vote on one of three art designs for 2014 merchandise. The chosen design, shown at left, will be put on select limited-edition merchandise at both Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Resort. 

 

Super Bowl Celebrations - February 1-4, 2013

To celebrate this weekend's Super Bowl, a pre-parade celebration will take place just before the daily "Celebrate A Dream Come True" parade. The parade will include Central Florida youth football champions, Goofy the football star, Walt Disney World Resort cheerleaders and Referees Chip and Dale.  After Sunday's big game, a special ticker-tape parade will take place down Main Street, U.S.A.

 

 

 

 

Cosmic Ray's will serve special food from February 1-9 in honor of the Super Bowl.  "Soup-er Bowls" representing the opposing teams will be available, as well as a special Lobster Bisque and Tomato Basil Bisque.

True Love Week - February 11-17, 2013

It's Valentine's at Disney! The park will be decorated with hearts and True Love banners and Cinderella Castle will "blush pink and red" with lighting synced with romantic music.

The Prince and Princess pairs will be out for meet and greets around the park. Mickey and Minnie will be in Town Square Theater, as will Aurora and Phillip, and Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.  Mary Poppins and Bert will be in Fantasyland and Prince Naveen and Princess Tiana will be in Liberty Square's Enchanted Glade.

Guests will even discover new themed photo locations where they can get their photos taken with Disney couples like Cinderella and Prince Charming and Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Cinderella's Glass Coach will be by the new Castle wall in New Fantasyland.  Cinderella's Wishing Well and the Rose Garden in Central Plaza will be decorated with hearts and flowers.

Special candlelit prix fixe meals for two will be offered at Artist Point, The Wave...of American Flavors, Hollywood Brown Derby, and Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Limited-edition Disney Valentine collectibles will be available for sale as well.

Presidents Day with the Voices of Liberty - February 18-24, 2013

Celebrate Presidents Day with the Voices of Liberty in the America Gardens Theatre. The show will feature the a cappella eight-part harmonies of the patriotic singing group, as well as inspirational quotes from American presidents.

The Dapper Dans, Main Street U.S.A.'s barbershop quartet, will sing a medley from famous "boy bands" One Direction, Backstreet Boys, and *NSYNC.  Some of the songs will include "Everybody," "What Makes You Beautiful," and "Bye, Bye, Bye."

For the Year of the Ear, guests can take advantage of a special Limited Time Magic promotion on miniature MousekeEars. Specifics on the promtion were not released.

Beautifully Disney cosmetic line debuts - March 1 - March 31, 2013

The new Beautifully Disney makeup line will feature palettes based on the colors of some favorite Disney characters. For a limited time, the "Wickedly Beautiful" collection will be available, a seasonal array of lip glosses, eyeshadow and nailpolishes pitting good against evil.  The collection features interpretations of Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel, Aurora, Evin Queen, Lady Tremaine, Ursula and Maleficent.

Vinylmation "Easter Egg" Hunt - March 18 - 24, 2013

Visit the Port of Entry or International Gateway at Epcot and purchase a special park map and stickers for $4.95.  Then explore the park and search for hidden eggs, using your map as guide.  As you locate the eggs, mark the map with your stickers.  When you've completed the hunt, visit one of the redemption locations to pick up your prize, a gift box with 2 Vinylmation key rings.

Spring Fling - March 25-31, 2013

Meet Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny on Main Street USA at Walt Disney World! They will pose for photos at Bunny Lane next to City Hall. Every day, you can also see them in an Easter parade on Main Street, full of butterflies, flowers and dancing hippos. 

In Epcot, they will be available throughout the day in the United Kingdom pavilion.  Easter egg hunts will be held each day in the U.K. pavilion, as well as Future World East.

Party for the Planet - April 22-28, 2013

It's Earth Week, as well as Animal Kingdom's 15th anniversary! All week long, rarely seen Disney characters can be seen in Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade at Animal Kingdom.  Dance parties will be hosted in Dinoland, USA by DJ Dino-Mite and Lilo & Stitch, Flik & Princess Atta, Koda & Kenai, and Thumper & Miss Bunny.  At Creature Comforts, you can pick up commemorative 15th anniversary merchandise (available online from 4/22-4/24). 

Some special desserts will be available as well.  At Hollywood Studios or Kona Cafe, you can try the "Worm and Dirt Cupcake" and at Magic Kingdom and Epcot, there is a "Worm and Dirt Tart" available.

May the Fourth Be With You - May 4, 2013

This pun on the classic Star Wars Line "May the force be with you" was created by fans as a fun way to celebrate the fictional world they love so much.  This year, Walt Disney World will get in on the action, celebrating the day at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  You can enjoy special Star Wars entertainment, characters, merchandise, a dance party and then end your day with a Star Wars-themed fireworks show.

Star Wars characters will make special appearances on the Star Tours ride, heading off through space right alongside you.  Jedi Training Academy will present a special edition and Lobot will DJ a nighttime dance party before the fireworks show begins.

Merida Becomes an Official Disney Princess - May 11, 2013

In a royal coronation ceremony at the Magic Kingdom, Merida (from the film Brave) will be christened as an official Disney Princess!  All 10 Princesses will gather together to celebrate the occasion.  Limited-edition Merida t-shirts will be available (in Youth and Toddler sizes) at the Emporium on Main Street U.S.A.

Make a Moment in Time Out of Mother's Day - May 11 - May 12, 2013

Spend Mother's Day Weekend with your mom at Walt Disney World. Stop by Tren-D or the World of Disney Store at Downtown Disney to see the new collection of watches designed just for the occasion.  Moms will receive a flower on Mother's Day when they enter the theme parks.
