The buildup to Disney’s highly anticipated take on A Wrinkle in Time has lead to an opportunity for aspiring directors throughout the nation. Backed by the combined resources of Ava DuVernay, Walt Disney Studios, and Nissan North America, “A Wrinkle in Time Contest: Searching for the Next Visionary Filmmaker” has put forth a challenge for inspired creators to “step up and share their unique storytelling voice.”

The prize for the competition is $100,000 to be used for the winner to create their own film. Ava DuVernay, director of A Wrinkle in Time and recent recipient of the NAACP Entertainer of the Year Image award, began her own filmmaking career with a feature costing just $50,000. In a promotional video for the contest, DuVernay said,

“That feature film started my career and set me on a path that’s brought me more joy than I can express: the journey as a filmmaker… So if you have a story, if you have a film that you wanna make, this is your chance to make it and share it with the world.”

The purpose of the challenge is to inspire filmmakers, with a special emphasis on females trying to make a career in the industry.

The winner of the contest will not only get the $100,000 provided by Nissan, but also a 2018 electric Nissan Leaf.

Contestants should submit a 2-minute video “showcasing your journey as a filmmaker.” You can step up to the challenge yourself at www.AWITFilmChallenge.com.

A Wrinkle in Time premieres March 9th. Take a look at the promotional video for the contest below:
