Next year when the Disney Magic crosses the Atlantic, she’ll be visiting several new ports in Europe for the first time, including first time visits to cities in Northern Ireland, Spain, and France. In addition Disney Cruise Line has scheduled two new cities in Sweden, which the Magic will visit during her Northern European sailings.
Nynäshamn is a modern port town that not only provides unique offerings of its own, but also serves as a gateway to Stockholm. The area is famous for its Viking rune stones, with 27 of the ancient structures nearby.
Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden, offers historic sites, museums, parks, and a bustling waterfront. Visit Gamla Stan, the city’s old town, which is full of medieval palaces, mansions, and historic churches and cathedrals.
The city also boasts over 100 museums, including the Nationalmuseum with its 16,000 paintings and the Vasa Museum, which houses the world’s oldest ship and other maritime objects.
At the heart of Stockholm is the Stadshuset, or City Hall, which was built in 1923 as a marvel of modern architecture. Tours take guests through the historic building, including the council chamber and the Blue Hall, where the Nobel Prize banquet is held.
The Magic will visit Nynäshamn during a 7-night Northern European Cruise out of Copenhagen that leaves August 1, 2019.
Gothenburg is another new Swedish port that is on the 2019 calendar for the Disney Magic. This second-largest city in Sweden has something for the entire family.
There are more than 20 islands on the Gothenburg Archipelago which feature beautiful beaches, villages to explore, and excursions that will take guests boating or fishing.
Younger guests will want to visit Liseberg, Sweden’s most popular amusement park, with its sculpture garden and themed rides. The Universeum science center lets kids go on a rainforest safari, visit a space station, or conduct experiments.
The whole family might enjoy the Garden Society of Gothenburg, which features a verdant park surrounded by tiny cafes and flowers.
For a relaxing way to see the city, try a Swedish paddan boat tour that will take you through the canals and under the city’s low bridges.
Finally, see works from Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Picasso, Munch, and more at the Gothenburg Museum of Modern Art.
The Magic will visit Gothenburg twice next year, once during an 11-night Norwegian Fjords and Iceland Cruise that departs July 21, 2019 from Dover, and again on a 7-night Northern European cruise that leaves from Dover on August 18, 2019.
