The Disneyland Resort files a lot of permits with the City of Anaheim and most of them are pretty standard, but a new one posted by Matthew Gottula on Twitter is interesting and raises some new questions.
The permit is for a 56 square foot cupola to be installed on the roof of the Pirates of the Caribbean building. There is already a cupola on the top of the Pirates building, so it’s likely that it would be replaced.
The permit also states that the new construction is related to Fantasmic!, which is currently not being performed due to construction on the Rivers of America. There have been rumors about possible changes and upgrades to Fantasmic!, but it’s not known if the new cupola is related to that…or just a fancy new way to hide some of the existing lights.
Pirates of the Caribbean is currently closed for refurbishment and is set to reopen March 16, 2017, just in time for its 50th anniversary. Fantasmic! is set to return this summer, but no exact date has been announced.
