Tuesday, the Canaveral Port Authority was awarded an $8.245 million grant for roadway improvement by the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund. This morning, the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners held a special meeting where they voted 5-0 to accept the grant, plus enter into an agreement with the Florida Depart of Economic Opportunity (DEO).
The grant will be used towards a $12 million road project meant to improve access to both cruise and cargo terminals. The work will result in increased capacity on north side cargo roads, changes to signals and traffic control, and improvement of signage throughout the terminal and on SR-528 and SR-401.
Port CEO Captain John Murray said it a statement, “We appreciate Governor Scott’s continued commitment to Florida’s ports and are grateful for this Florida Job Growth Grant Fund investment in our area. Port Canaveral is a world-class strategic gateway for Central Florida and a 21st century economic driver for the region. These roadway improvements will help us continue to contribute to the vitality of our growing economy.”
Port Canaveral serves Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line, and more.
