Changes coming to the Polynesian Resort, including a new name
May 2, 2014
As rumored for awhile, Disney's Polynesian Resort will be renamed after the current construction is complete. At a press event this morning, George A. Kalogridis, president of the Walt Disney World Resort, announced that the resort would be known as Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, the name it held when opening in 1971.
Construction has already begun at the resort, with a complete remodel of the lobby planned. The large waterfall in the lobby will be removed and new decor will be added. One of the most anticipated changes is the addition of Trader Sam's Grog Grotto, a version of the popular interactive lounge at the Disneyland Hotel. More updates on the remodel are sure to be released as changes are completed.
