Disney's Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii is in the middle of an
expansion. We already knew that the Waikolohe Valley pool area will be expanded with more water features and dining options, but now more details have been released about those areas. A themed family pool will be added that will extend to the edge of the property and feature a misty grotto. Twinkling lights on the grotto's ceiling and the pool's floor will mimic the nighttime sky. A kids' splash zone with rainbow water jets will be located nearby, designed like the island's tidal pools. Just like around the rest of the resort, the mischievous Menehune are hidden around the area and will provide some surprises. New deck space, chairs and cabanas will complete the new water play area.
Two quick service restaurants are planned as well. One will service the pool area and serve continental breakfast, and sandwiches, salads and snacks for lunch and dinner. The food can be enjoyed on the outdoor patio with an ocean view. The beach will be the home to the second restaurant, which will offer grab-and-go snacks for beach visitors.
The enhancements should be completed by mid-2013.
