Disney retail continues upswing
by Leah ZanollaJun 10, 2008
Disney's smallest division, retail sales, has reported global sales of $30 billion, more than doubling the $13 billion in revenue from five years prior.
The announcement was made during the International Licensing Expo being held in New York. Disney has acheived top licensor ranking thanks to its Princess, Toy Story, Cars and High School Musical brands.
Between Hannah Montana and High School Musical branded merchandise, Disney netted $400 million in 2007. It is anticipated that these two tween franchises will generate $2.7 billion in sales this year with additional strong sales following the upcoming "Camp Rock" starring the Jonas Brothers.
Disney's stocks responded favorably following this announcement.
