Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, has been named 2014 CEO of the Year by Chief Executive magazine. Iger was nominated and voted upon by a group of fellow CEOs.
JP Donlon, Editor in Chief of Chief Executive magazine, said of Iger, "Even iconic brands need fixing from time to time. But instead of the easy fixes, Bob Iger played the long game by addressing Disney's cultural issues head-on with a three-pronged strategy, making it a stronger, more profitable company with greater depth in its overall brand. For this reason, he is well-deserving of this year's CEO of the Year honor."
Iger became the company's CEO in 2005 and oversaw the acquisitions of Pixar Animation Studios in 2006, Marvel Entertainment in 2009, and Lucasfilm in 2012. In 2013, shareholder returns were 202 percent, with stock prices hitting a record-high $79.23 in February 2014. When Iger first began the job, stock prices were only at $23.81.
Some past recipients in the award's 29-year history include Bill Gates of Microsoft, Jack Welch of GE and Michael Dell of Dell Computers.
