More NextGen testing taking place at Walt Disney World
Dec 19, 2012

Walt Disney World plans another round of testing for their NextGen project. The first test involves the new Magic Kingdom "Be Our Guest Restaurant" and will allow guests to go online ahead of time and reserve a lunch time, as well as pre-select their menu items. At the pre-selected time, guests will check in at the restaurant and pay for their meals. They will then take the rose-shaped RFID reader to their table and a few minutes later, their meals will be delivered. Hopes are that this system would reduce wait time in the restaurant. This is currently in test phase and will be offered to select guests when they are checking in to their resorts. The restaurant will still accept walkups for lunch service.

A FASTPASS+ test for IllumiNations, the nighttime spectacular at Epcot, will also begin this month. Preferred viewing locations will be available in World Showcase Plaza and near the Germany Pavilion. The FASTPASS+ system is designed to allow guests to plan out their day, choosing the time they wish to experience attractions, shows, parades and fireworks.
