Train station coming to Orlando International Airport
Feb 19, 2014
With the addition of a train stations, Orlando International Airport will become a transportation hub for the area. Governor Rick Scott held a press conference to announce the news, saying, "It's another great news day in Orlando."
Scott has pledged $215 million state tax dollars to go toward the expansion, which will include plane, train and ground transportation. The total amount needed for the project is $680 million, though the new hub is expected to generate billions of dollars for the local economy.
The All Aboard Florida train service will be located at the hub, but an additional 40 miles of track needs to be completed first; 200 miles are already in place. In 2015, an Orlando-to-Miami train will begin operating along I-95.
"Think how it's going to continue building this region. I think it's going to be positive and beneficial. The airport's growing, the region's growing and this is part of that expansion," Scott said.
