A 77, 000 square-foot museum about Walt Disney- the man, not the company- will open October 1st in San Fransisco. Richard Benefield, executive director of the museum said, "It's our turn to tell his story, to narrate the life of someone whose name is often confused with a brand." One of the forces behind the project is Diane Disney Miller, Walt's oldest daughter. Miller thought the Presidio, a national park with a military history, would be a perfect place to house the museum. Specifically, it will take over a restored historic army barracks, with views of the Golden Gate bridge. There will be 10 galleries holding family memories, drawings, audio recordings and even the small train that Walt used to have in his backyard. A movie theater will be used to show classic Disney films and as a spot to hold seminars. Admission will be $20 for adults and free for children under age 6.
