Walt Disney World monorail shut down due to fire
by Leah ZanollaSep 30, 2009
Walt Disney World shut down the Magic Kingdom monorail line Wednesday morning after smoke was spotted around 10 am. The line was shut down in an effort to exercise extreme caution. One monorail full of passengers had to be towed to the nearest station. The incident was turned over to the Reedy Creek Fire Department. No one was injured and the fire department said there was never any danger to the guests. Early reports suggest that the smoke was caused by an electrical short in the line.
This is not the first incident involving the monorail this year. In June, there was a fatal accident involving two monorails near the Ticket and Transportation Center. One driver was killed.
