Disney plans four Star Wars children's books
Apr 19, 2014

Four new children's Star Wars books based on the original film trilogy are being planned for release by Disney Publishing Worldwide. The first book, The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight, will be out in October 2014 and will be in picture book form. This book will cover all three films in the trilogy and be written by Tony DiTerlizzi of The Spiderwick Chronicles fame. Illustrations will be concept art from the late Ralph McQuarrie.

The last three books are each based on one of the films. R.J. Palacio (Wonder) will retell Star Wars: A New Hope in April 2015, Adam Gidwitz (A Tale Dark & Grimm) covers Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in July 2015, followed by Tom Angleberger (The Strange Case of Origami Yoda) with the story from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in October 2015, right before the December 2015 release of the upcoming Episode VII film.

Carol Roeder, director of Lucasfilm franchise publishing at Disney Publishing Worldwide, said, "We're working with a dream team of bestselling authors who are passionate about the brand and are telling the story in their own way. This is a great way to introduce the original films to kids who didn't grow up with them."

The four books will all be available worldwide.
