Fandango, the Comcast owned online ticket provider, has purchased Disney's Movies.com. It is the first site that Fandango has acquired in its eight year history.

Disney's Movies.com originally was MrShowbiz.com and focused on film news. Disney partnered with Fox to provide Internet movies on demand via Movies.com but that project never came to fruition.

The merger of Fandango and Movies.com will strengthen Fandango's rankings in the competitive online movie market.

It is believed that the sale of Movies.com is part of Disney's plans to concentrate on the ABC, ESPN and Disney brands. The Movies.com employees impacted by this sale will be given different assignments within Disney's Internet Group.
