Johnny Depp considers reprising Mad Hatter role
Jul 15, 2013
Johnny Depp is in talks with Disney to join the cast of Alice in Wonderland 2, once again taking on the role of the Mad Hatter. The original film was put out in 2010 by Tim Burton, who will not be returning for the sequel. Alice in Wonderland 2 will be directed by James Bobin, director of The Muppets, but no release date has been set. The original made over $1 billion, though reviews were not very favorable, as evidenced by its 51 percent rating on rottentomatoes.com.
Most recently, Depp worked with Disney on The Lone Ranger, which is on target to be a box office flop. 12 days after release, the movie had only brought in $71 million domestically, though it cost over $200 million to produce. The upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 5 will be released in summer 2015 and is likely to be a hit, based on the popularity of Depp's Jack Sparrow character and the first four films in the franchise.
