Layoffs at Pixar headquarters

After delaying their upcoming film The Good Dinosaur, Pixar Animation Studios laid off several people from their headquarters in California. Back in September, it was announced that the film's release date would be moved from May 30, 2014 to November 25, 2015, thus leaving Pixar without a film in 2014, for the first year since 2005.

According to the LA Times, "the layoffs affect less than 5% of the company's 1,200-person workforce." The film's director, Bob Peterson, was replaced in August, a move which a Pixar representative described as a result of "constantly re-evaluating the creative and business needs of our studio." The representative sent on to say, "With the release date change of The Good Dinosaur, we have realigned our production and support priorities, which includes a small reduction in our staffing levels." Peterson has not yet been replaced, but the project is currently being reworked.

Pixar Vancouver Studios was closed in October and 80 staff members were laid off. A statement said, "The team at Pixar Canada is incredibly talented and we are so proud of the excellent work we have produced there. However, as we look at the creative and business needs of our studio, we've made the decision to refocus our efforts and resources under one roof in Emeryville and will be closing the studio in Vancouver."
