Two giraffes born at Disney's Animal Kingdom
by Leah ZanollaOct 20, 2009
Visitors to Disney's Animal Kingdom will soon be able to see the park's newest additions - two baby giraffes. These male giraffes are the 13th and 14th calves to be born at Animal Kingdom since its opening in 1998. On October 5th, Bruehler was born to Aibuni and weighed 166 pounds. Big Girl delivered Bolo on October 12th, who was a little smaller at 153 pounds. Both calves are almost six feet tall, but will top out at 15 - 18 feet when they are fully grown.
Walt Disney World breeds its giraffes through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Population Management Plan, which is a group of zoos and wildlife parks that work together to protect and breed their animals.
