Contemporary adding Kingdom Tower
by Leah ZanollaFeb 26, 2008
With the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation issuing a timeshare license for the "Kingdom Tower", the Disney Vacation Club is now poised to sell units at this addition to the Contemporary Resort.
This construction project has been the subject of ongoing speculation. While the Disney Vacation Club has yet to acknowledge that this is the latest addition to their expansion projects, this license puts the rumors to rest.
Industry insiders suspect Disney's stance is due to the potential impact it will have on sales of their Saratoga Springs and the Animal Kingdom Villas properties. It is anticipated that the Kingdom Tower's proximity to the Magic Kingdom and monorail will make it one of the most desirable DVC offerings to date.
The license request also provides more insight as to the amenities which are planned. Among them are a pool with a 104 foot waterslide, tennis, bocce ball and shuffleboard courts, two hot tubs and a covered barbecue pavilion. The 281 unit Tower will connect to the Contemporary's main buiding via a fifth floor pedestrian bridge.
Included in the filing is a point chart which indicates that the point values at the Kingdom Towers will be higher than at the other Disney Vacation Club resorts.
With completion of the $110 million project scheduled for Fall of 2009, it is not known when the Disney Vacation Club will begin sales of this property through the recently incorporated "Kingdom Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort Condominium Association."
The Disney Vacation Club's current expansion projects includes a resort in Hawaii and at Disneyland's Grand Californian hotel.
