Declines at Orlando Airport continue
by Leah ZanollaNov 2, 2008
Orlando International airport reports a continued downturn in travelers. The 2.1 million passengers who used the Orlando airport in September represent a 13 percent drop in traffic, more than double the 6.3 drop in August. Compared to 2007, there were 380,000 fewer travelers this September.
Domestic air travel was hardest hit with a 15 percent decline. While International visitors were up by 19 percent, the actual number of passengers was only 161,000. Part of this upswing is credited to increased service by AeroMexico, Copa and Lufthansa.
While the economy is a factor, the Orlando airport also downsized its capacity by 14 percent in both September and October. It is anticipated that November and December will see 12 percent fewer flights.
