Disney removes controversial delicacy from menus

by Leah Zanolla
Oct 12, 2008

Disney has removed foie gras from its restaurant menus. The controversial delicacy has long been targeted by animal rights activists for the method used to produce it.

Offcially, Disney's spokesperson Andrea Finger stated "It's about making adjustments to the menu" in response to its removal from Victoria & Albert', Citrico's, California Grill and Les Chefs de France.

Animal Protection and Rescue Leaque activist Bryan Pease commented "I think if they make a policy decision to ban the product from all their menus, there must have to be a social reason for that. It wouldn't be because people don't like it anymore". Pease's group opposes the production of foie gras in which geese and ducks are force fed grain through a metal tube which results in the liver swelling up to 10 times its size.
