Disney's Wide World of Sports unlikely to host Tampa Rays in 2009
by Leah ZanollaOct 12, 2008
Following the release of the Major League Baseball 2009 season, the Tampa Bay Rays are unlikely to play at Disney's Wide World of Sports. The Rays have scheduled games at the Disney sports center for the past two years.
The team will only schedule weekday games in either April or May due to the problem with rain in Orlando beginning in June. In 2009, the Rays will only have three weekday games, including their home season opener, that meet these requirements for playing at Disney.
With the team currently involved in the American League Championship series, Rays owner Stuart Steinberg stated "It's doubtful, but we haven't really focused at all, with everything going on, on next year. But looking at the schedule, it's doubtful. But we certainly haven't ruled out the idea of going back to Orlando, whether it's next year or the year after at some point."
