The suspected Disney scam artist Jason MacLaren was arrested after being stopped for a traffic violation.
MacLaren recently conned guests staying at Disney resorts out of $30,000. The suspect had previously been caught two years ago after bilking Disney guests but police lost track of his whereabouts.
MacLaren would call guest rooms, convince the visitors that they won a prize and would get their credit card information. He then used the cards to buy area attraction and circus tickets, selling them at a discount to tourists. Detective Bryan Vilella stated that MacLaren kept some tickets for his own use. "He likes Disney. He's gone since he was a kid. It's just a place he likes to go."
There are surveillance videos of MacLaren using the house phones at Disney's Pop Century, Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge resorts as well as at three other resorts. Disney has refunded the monies lost by their guests targeted by MacLaren and now has warnings in the rooms about guests being asked for credit card information via a phone call.
