The latest sting of the economy's affect on tourism in central Florida has been felt in the form of area hotels making further attempts to cut costs. Some hotels are lowering their rates while others have opted to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In terms of staffing, hotels seem to be reducing the number of employees by 10-12% as well as cutting employees' hours. It should be noted that this drop in lodging is not solely attributed to a drop in theme park visitors. The operating changes made by local hotels are partially due to the fact that fewer companies are sending their employees to Orlando for meetings where an overnight stay would be required.
