Will the "Force" be with Orlando?
by Leah ZanollaNov 8, 2009
According to the Orlando Business Journal, Orlando is campaigning for the opportunity to host Star Wars Celebration V, a fan convention that could bring as many as 30,000 tourists to town for the 2010 festival. While not confirmed by Lucasfilm (George Lucas' production company) other cities mentioned as being in contention for the festival are Chicago, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, and Baltimore.
The four-day fan gathering, which would include displays of artifacts and guest speakers from the Star Wars films, would have an estimated financial impact of $36 million. The convention would appear to be a perfect fit for Orlando, as Disney's Hollywood Studios hosts the very popular Star Wars Weekends every summer.
