Rumors regarding the Disney Cruise Line's "Fantasy"

We all know that the newest Disney cruise ship, the Disney Dream, is set to sail from Port Canaveral, FL for her maiden voyage on January 26, 2011.
What we've heard much less about is the OTHER new Disney Cruise Line vessel, the Fantasy - which is scheduled to launch sometime in 2012. Disney has not yet confirmed any details about the Fantasy, but that doesn't mean we aren't hearing things about it.
Here's what we've heard - and I should stress these are RUMORS, not fact. We'll update this info as we learn more.
1. The Disney Fantasy will likely be identical to the Disney Dream (much the same way the Wonder and Magic are virtually identical). The differences between the two new ships will be similar to the differences between the two existing ships - minor differences in their decorating style, different names for the on-board dining venues, etc. No word yet on whether the Disney Fantasy will also have the "AquaDuck" water slide featured on the Dream that's been the source of so much buzz and excitement. My guess is that it will have the slide.
2. The Disney Magic will continue to do cruises in the Baltic and the Mediterranean through the summer months, and it's likely the Disney Fantasy will assume the 7 night eastern and western Caribbean itineraries that the Magic normally runs. What's not clear is where the Fantasy will be berthed during the rest of the year. Sources we've spoken to are saying it's likely the home port for the Fantasy will be New York City. Although Galveston, TX is also rumored as a possible port. If New York City does become the home port for the Disney Fantasy - we'll likely see a series of excursions all around the eastern seaboard, including Bermuda, Bahamas, Caribbean and of course Canada.
3. We're also hearing that bookings for the Disney Fantasy's 2012 sailing won't open up until sometime in early 2011 for departures starting sometime in June 2012.
4. Where price is concerned, it's hard to say what a cruise on the Disney Fantasy will run. In comparing prices we're seeing on the Disney Dream as compared to the Disney Wonder - I was surprised to find that 3 night cruises on the Dream are running about 15% cheaper than the 3 night cruises on the Wonder. The difference is a little less dramatic on the 4 night sailings - about 10% cheaper than the Wonder. However, the very popular 5 night sailings on the Disney Dream are running quite a bit more expensive than a comparable 7 night sailing on the Disney Magic. These price discrepancies can be related to any number of factors - the new ships have more staterooms to fill (which could be driving down prices), some itineraries are more popular than others (which would drive prices up), etc. There's not enough information yet to determine what prices on the Fantasy will look like, but we'll be able to start making predictions once we know what kind of itineraries will be available.
As I said, these are rumors, but they are rumors from good sources so I'm 75% confident in them. As the year progresses, and more work is completed on the Fantasy, I expect we'll hear more about it - so stay tuned!
