Construction picking up at Disney California Adventureby Leah Zanolla
Sep 9, 2010
Now that summer is coming to an end, construction work is picking up on Disney California Adventure's $1 billion rehab. The park will soon look very different to its repeat guests. Sunshine Plaza will no longer be home to the large sunburst statue and fountain, as workers today started removing these from their location near the entrance of the park. Construction walls will soon go up to hide all of these repairs from the public. Work on removing the mosaic tile walls near the turnstiles will begin Monday.
Some features being added are a new entrance and an area called Buena Vista Street, which will look like Hollywood in the 1920's when Walt Disney first came to California. Sunshine Plaza will house a replica of the Carthay Circle Theatre, which premiered the 1929 Silly Symphony cartoons and the 1937 classic "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." These new areas will open in 2012.
