12-year-old girl protests SeaWorld parade float
Nov 30, 2013
Leading up to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, there was lots of discussion about PETA's plans to protest the SeaWorld float. What actually ended up happening may have been even more interesting. Rose McCoy, a 12-year-old girl from Tribeca, jumped over the parade's barricades and ran into the street chanting "Boycott SeaWorld." She was also carrying a sign that said the same thing.
She said there was a protest planned, but the plans fell through due to the crowd size, so she decided to rush onto the street by herself. Rose ran into the parade right in front of SeaWorld's float and was quickly removed by a police officer. She said, "I was a little nervous when I climbed into the barricade and then saw the security guard coming at me. One of the cops said I ruined the parade, which actually made my day."
