Gabriela Cowperthwaite, the director of anti-SeaWorld documentary Blackfish
, denies claims that she received confidential information from an Occupational Safety and Heath Administration investigator. Last week, SeaWorld filed a complaint with the Labor Department accusing OSHA investigator Lara Padgett of leaking confidential information to the Blackfish
film crew. They have written and videotaped statements from a witness who testifies to that fact, including several Facebook posts from Padget praising the film's success.
Cowperthwaite says that Padgett wasn't involved in filming and that she "declined repeated requests to participate in Blackfish
." The director says she's "looking forward to a day when SeaWorld honestly and transparently addresses animal welfare and trainer safety."
