3,500 new jobs announced for Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando will be hiring 3,500 workers for their new Cabana Bay Beach Resort, as well as the expansions at CityWalk and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The new jobs were announced at a press conference on Friday, February 14, with Florida Governor Rick Scott, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Universal officials in attendance.

Governor Scott said, "3,500 new jobs, 3,500 families now that can live their dream. I would like to thank everyone for doing this. Like to thank everyone in the tourism industry for all their hard work creating unbelievable experiences for the whole world to come visit."

Scott spoke about Florida's recent increase in tourism numbers. 2013 saw a new record of 94.7 million visitors to the state, up 3.5 percent from the year before. Scott wants to give $100 million to Visit Florida, the state's official tourism marketing corporation, to use in promoting the state to tourists.

Bill Davis, president of the Universal Orlando Resort said, "We are excited for our future in Florida and we are glad to be able to bring new jobs and economic growth to our community and to the state. We are also grateful for the strong public-private partnership that continues to help our industry grow."
