The Lost Continent refers to three specific "legends".
The first was the legend of Atlantis, the second the legend
of Sinbad, and the third, the legend of Merlin.
In essence, the lost continent is three themed lands rolled
into one. Creativity blended with temperance and a slight dramatic
flare give this land a unique and special quality.

Height Requirement: 54 inches tall
Dueling Dragons is an inverted
(meaning that the track is ABOVE you, rather than below
you) roller coaster with two trains. This and the hulk are your best bets when it comes to thrill ride roller coasters at Islands of Adventure. There is one part of the Dueling Dragons ride where it seems like you will hit the other coaster while making a loop. Which one is better, Fire or Ice? You'll have to judge for yourself. Are you feeling cold or hot?
Hold your sandals and sunglasses. If you have bags, you will have to place them in a locker or have someone sit out and be the "holder" person. That's usually the person too scared to ride.
When loaded,
each train is weighed before they are launched, and timed
accordingly. This is to ensure that they will pass
within 12 inches of each other at certain points in the
ride.
This ride wins and loses points for it's queuing area.
The queuing area is incredible (most if it takes
place inside a castle that is among the best theming of any ride in Orlando), the down side is that the line can reach 1
MILE LONG!!!!
TIP: On the ground in front of
the entrance to Dueling Dragons, you will find a circle
with a star map within. By standing on the circle,
and looking forward, you can see each of the Dragons 3
"near misses" perfectly.
TIP: The theming for this ride
was directly supervised by Steven Spielberg. You
might want to join your party on the line just to see
the magnificent castle that houses most of the queue.
You will be able to bypass the ride at the end of the
line.
There are restrictions for guests that may be
overweight. Each set of cars contains one spot with
a double seat belt. In order to ride, you must fit
comfortably within the harness.
A stunt show loosely based on the adventures
of Sinbad. There is a small 'lake' separating the
stage, and while the set is quite spectacular, the show
itself is fairly tame, but a good respite from the sun. |

An area of skill games (similar to Amity Island
at Universal, just not as big). While the games
may be familiar, they are themed to fit in with Lost Continent.
For example, rather than trying to catapult frogs into
lily pads, you try to catapult rats into cast iron cauldrons. This area also has psychics and tarot card readers from the Cassadga, Florida psychic community just north of Orlando.

A Global Discovery Group's exploration of Poseidon's
ruins. There, you're engaged in a battle between Poseidon
and Lord Darkenon. Lord Darkenon has nothing to do with
mythology. He's sort of an armor-wearing evildoer with
bad Darth Maul make-up.
Height requirement: 36 inches
The Flying Unicorn is tucked away in a corner of the Lost
Continent near Dueling Dragons. It is a roller coaster
designed for the younger guests. It swoops and spirals
you down and around Merlin's forest. The ride time is
about a minute. Younger kids tend to enjoy this ride since
they generally aren't tall enough to ride the big boys
(Dueling Dragons and the Incredible Hulk Coaster). |
