Earthquake:
The Big One
Thrill Rating: 5 (tame for most, but those who
have experienced a real earthquake may find it eerie).
Based
on the film, this attraction starts off with a demonstration
on how special effects were used in the movie to create
the effect of a massive earthquake. This includes
a fascinating look at the original models used in the
film. Audience volunteers also help during a sequence
that is filmed against a blue screen background, which
is later mixed with some special effects to further demonstrate
the craft.
Eventually,
you board the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit - a subway)
that is supposed to run from Oakland to San Francisco.
Once on board the tram, the earthquake starts to hit.
It
is a very well done attraction, that proved a little too
intense for some friends of mine from California, who
have experienced the real deal. It's something to
keep in mind, but the attraction is not to be missed.
