Review: Baseline Tap House Now Open at Hollywood Studios

gWho doesn’t enjoy celebrating Friday with a good drink at Walt Disney World? Today, patrons of Disney’s Hollywood Studios were surprised to find out that Baseline Tap House, the newest bar to hit the park, would open its doors for the very first time. We couldn’t pass up an opportunity to hit the establishment on its opening day, so we packed up and headed to Grand Avenue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Baseline Tap House is situated in the Figueroa Printing Company building right next to the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant and that new space comes with a ton of history. According to Cast Members, the Figueroa Printing Company was a graphic design and printing company in Downtown Los Angeles that worked closely with Disney, especially in the ’50s. However, the Figueroa Printing Company closed and now it has been reopened as a Craft Beer bar that we are able to enjoy!

The story is translated very well inside the space, making it very easy to spot some Disneyland references very quickly. At a quick glance, you’ll be able to see the printing process for a Storybook Land poster as well as another Disneyland advertisement. These are the easiest to find, but definitely take some time to look around the interior and find more hidden details, like an ad for the opening day of Disneyland!

As for the drinks, the menu focuses on California beer and you’ll find Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, and Golden Road on tap, just to name a few. There are a total of 9 beers on tap, and 16 oz pours will run you $8.25 while 22 oz pours will cost $9.50. You can create your own flight for $10.50 and that will include four 5 oz pours. If you aren’t into beer, there is a cider on tap, cocktails on tap, wine, and some non-alcoholic options. It is also a full bar if you can’t go without your classic cocktails. There are also three snack options:

    Toma Farmstead Cheese, Point Reyes Original Blue Cheese, Laura Chenel’s Sonoma Goat Cheese, Chorizo and Calabrese Salami, Cornichons, Grapes and Toasted Baguettes
  • Spiced Almonds – $6.00
    House-made Sweet and Spicy Toasted Almonds

We decided the best way to get a feel for the menu was by ordering two flights, the pretzel, and the charcuterie. Our bartender did make a mistake when pouring so we ended up getting a 5 oz portion of every beer on the menu with the exception of the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and the bartender even threw in the Ace Space Bloody Orange Hard Cider.

When you receive a flight, the beer is served with a card that includes the brewery name, the beer name, the brewery location, alcohol percentage, and IBU, as well as a basic description of the beers. For example, the Golden Road 329 Lager is described as, “Easy drinking, full flavored lager with a clean, crisp finish.” Our group had a diverse collection of beer drinkers, so our feelings on the beer varied pretty wildly, but we were able to agree that the Stone Delicious IPA, Golden Road 329 Lager, Anchor Meyer Lemon Lager, and Ace Space Bloody Orange Hard Cider were the best of the selections.

The pretzel was a solid choice for a snack and the portion was definitely big enough to share between 3 or 4 people. The Beer Cheese Fondue is made up of Gruyere, Provolone, and the Golden Road 329 Lager, and it was an excellent beer cheese. It took us about a half hour to finish the pretzel and by the time we finished, the beer cheese was still in its liquid form and didn’t harden up at all like most beer cheeses do after some time. The mustard was very tangy and was definitely a step up from normal yellow mustard. Our suggestion – ask for the stone ground mustard that is served with the Charcuterie.

The best way to describe the Charcuterie was good, not great. The platter comes with Farmstead cheese, which is similar to a Cheddar, Blue Cheese, and Goat Cheese topped with Pumpkin Seeds and Cranberry, alongside Chorizo and Calabrese Salami, Grapes, and Baguettes. The best cheese was the Goat Cheese, and the rest was pretty unremarkable but worth a try.

The seating area outside is extremely comfortable. I’m sure it will be beautiful at night with lights strung up throughout the patio. The charming details from inside even made their way outside with art showcasing the Pacific Electric trolley! It is a perfect place to relax and people watch, and it will only get better once Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens up. Inside, there is not a ton of room unless you’re okay with sitting in a straight line on bar stools, but the window seats are packed with outlets for charging devices.

Overall, Baseline Tap House will surely be a go-to spot at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. If bars aren’t your scene then it won’t have a lot to offer, but it does fill a big void that Disney has been missing – a craft beer bar.
