Disney Shares Storyline for Spider-Man Attraction Coming to California Adventure and Disneyland Paris

WEB-F

While the new fictional organization created by Walt Disney Imagineering may seem Spider-Man exclusive — it is called WEB after all — it will actually serve as the foundation for guests to experience their own super powers at new attractions in Marvel-themed lands coming to Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Paris. In an article on the Disney Parks Blog, Scot Drake of Marvel Global Portfolio recently gave some insight into a new attraction to debut at the parks, as well as some backstory as to what WEB is:

The Avengers are setting up new Headquarters and training facilities around the globe to inspire all potential recruits willing to step up and become something more. As part of this global initiative, Tony Stark has founded the Worldwide Engineering Brigade — or WEB for short— to develop advancements in super-powered technology, including new enhancements to Spider-Man’s suit as their debut project. By bringing together the world’s brightest young inventors, the WEB is creating new interfaces that will empower all of us to join the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest.

Spider-Man’s suit is the first focus of this new organization, and it is on display now at Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris; it will be debuting at the Disneyland Resort’s California Adventure soon.

Ryan Meinerding, Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, said of the suit’s development,

It has been the highlight of my career to design all of Spider-Man’s suits for the most recent films. Bringing him to life through Tony Stark’s capable design aesthetic was a true joy, but working with the Walt Disney Imagineering team to develop a look for Spidey that reflects the innovation of a team of young geniuses really brings him to a new level. And knowing that park guests can get up close to that suit and really take in all the detail the astounding Imagineers packed into it means that we have truly brought a new version of the character to life.

WEB will be the basis for a new interactive attraction at both parks, one that will let guests feel what it is like to have super powers through the use of “never-before-seen technology and practical effects.” Concept art was released last year for the new Spider-Man attraction.

Disney says the attraction will “blend seamlessly” into the new lands at California Adventure and Walt Disney Studios Park, so WEB may play a role in the story lines of other entertainment and attractions throughout each Marvel area.

Disney previously teased the Worldwide Engineering Brigade when it first released vague details about the backstory of the new lands: Along with WEB, Tony Stark has partnered with S.H.I.E.L.D., Pym Technologies, and Masters of the Mystic Arts to create training hubs for the next generation of super heroes.
