With cruise ships only shuffling in and out of port for supplies due to the COVID-19 coronavirus related shut down, Port Canaveral is now feeling the economic effects and has begun furloughing employees.
According to a statement, 50 of the port's 250 employees "whose job functions are not required for current operations" are being furloughed. The cuts come in the cruise operations and recreation segments.
The furloughs are effective April 3rd and are expected to continuing until May 30th, but that date is contingent on the resumption of cruise line operations. Those affected remain as employees through the furlough.
