Disney World testing Droid smartphone as park guide
Aug 11, 2010
According to a report and accompanying video on Wired.com, a technology-based magazine and website, Walt Disney World is currently testing a system wherein the now defunct Droid Eris smartphones are being utilized as electronic park guides. Since testing is in the early stages, the exact capabilities and functions of the phone are unclear, but the report suggests the device will provide attraction wait times, up-to-the-minute show schedules, and possibly even offer spur of the moment discounts while guests are touring the parks.
Previously, the "Mobile Magic" application has been offered with similar functions exclusively to Verizon users on certain phones, but was an extra subscription charge for users. This move would develop a device that guests could use to enhance their vacation experience regardless of what carrier or device they privately own. It is unknown whether this new service would be complimentary or at an added cost to guests.
