Join Me for a Stroll by the Gingerbread Display at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn

The resorts at Walt Disney World continue to amaze guests with their gingerbread displays, and, just the other day, I had the opportunity to stop by Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and lay eyes on the gingerbread masterpiece located in the lobby. If you have a non-park day on a Disney vacation coming up this holiday season, I suggest that you add this display to your list. You won’t regret it.

The bakery team at the BoardWalk Inn has recreated their beautiful boardwalk in gingerbread. The centerpiece of the display, which is large enough to allow several guests at a time to get close enough to see all of the details, is a miniature version of the BoardWalk Bakery.

Baker Mickey has been hard at work whipping up the cutest little treats for Minnie. If you look close enough, you’ll see that his holiday sweets include slices of carrot cake, gingerbread men, and a gingerbread house. I love the teeny microwave and Kitchen Aid mixer.

The display also incorporates small versions of Trattoria al Forno and Flying Fish, as well as the Crest O’ The Wave portion of the inn.

Trattoria al Forno’s Christmas tree is decorated with miniature ornaments representing all sorts of bakery items and tools. The dusting of snow on the boardwalk is a lovely touch.

Yes, those are teeny tiny fish and shell ornaments on the Christmas tree just outside of the gingerbread Flying Fish. The detail work done on this display is stunning.

The ESPN Club is depicted just to the left of the bakery, and is topped with its iconic hand and barbell. Just to the left of the ESPN Club stand a garden pergola and gazebo, complete with horse drawn carriage.

Look closely at the planks of the boardwalk and you’ll notice the the bakery team went above and beyond as they created each plank to look as though it is wood. The woodgrain detailing is incredible.

As is the case for the other gingerbread displays on Walt Disney World property, there is a treat stand nearby. The BoardWalk Inn’s treat stand is just across from the display, and, unlike other gingerbread treat stands, several of the offerings available at the BoardWalk are based on traditional German recipes.

IMG_8134

Spitz Leckerli ($9.39) is a cookie that is flavored with spices, and is nutty and chewy. Candied citrus rind is used in the preparation.

Zimtsterne Sugar Star cookies (German Cinnamon Star cookies) are available for $9.39. They are spice cookies that also incorporate citrus peel, as well as ground nuts.

IMG_8135

Mini Spicy Contessa Cookies ($9.39) are small gingerbread cookies with a chocolate coating on the bottom. With how small and snackable these cookies appear to be, I’m fairly certain this bag would be gone in no time flat.

IMG_8136

Spitz Kuchen (or Spitzkuchen) are spicy cookies made using, among other things, chopped nuts and honey. They are cut into triangles, and their name means “pointy cake”. They are available at the treat stand for $9.39.

Loaves of Stollen are also available here at the treat stand. Stollen is a traditional German Christmastime bread that is made with fruit filling, candied fruit, and nuts. Stollen is something that my family has at breakfast every Christmas morning, so I was very excited to find traditional Stollen available here at the BoardWalk Inn.

A special version of the amazing BoardWalk Bakery Coconut Macaroon is available at the treat stand. This jumbo macaroon has been dipped in chocolate, and is available for $5.99. I’ll be going back for one of these. I’m not exactly sure why I walked away without one. Clearly, I’m now questioning my priorities.

Frozen beverages, both with and without alcohol, are available here at the stand, as are traditional treats such as Mickey Gingerbread Cookies, Peppermint Bark, and Mickey and Minnie Sugar Cookies.

A dated ornament specifically themed for the BoardWalk’s gingerbread display ($14.99) is for sale in Dundy’s Sundries, located just off the lobby.

As with the other gingerbread displays on WDW property, the BoardWalk also gets its own hot cocoa mug ($24.99). This just might be the best one as it features Mickey and Minnie.

This season’s gingerbread displays are really helping to set a merry mood for those who stop by to enjoy them. As I said earlier, if you have some non-park time on your holiday Walt Disney World vacation, be sure to add the gingerbread displays (and a treat or two) to your itinerary.
