In a national press release, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that its employees must begin to wear facial protection while at screening checkpoints to help minimize the spread of COVID-19.
This additional measure is not only being implemented to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 but also to help raise the health and safety level inside the airports. TSA is also considering changes to its screening system to minimize risks and limit physical interactions at the security checkpoints.
TSA Administrator David Pekoske said,
TSA is making this change to protect our employees and travelers as social distancing cannot always be maintained in the screening process.
Travelers are encouraged to wear face coverings, however, they may be asked to momentarily lower it for identity verification purposes.
