Grab a Tissue for the New Disney Holiday Short

Alright, you caught me! Something special happened last week, and I’ve been keeping it from you. No, not the wildly anti-climatic lululemon x Disney merch collaboration (which was cute but not the Disneyland 70th merch I was hoping for). No, this was something much softer, much more enchanting: the new Disney holiday short from The Walt Disney Company. It’s called The Boy & The Octopus, and I’ve been waiting for just the right time to share it with you. The hustle and bustle of the weekend wasn’t going to do; this one deserves the full procrastinating attention of a work day. Enter Tuesday. It’s the perfect time to settle in and forget you have work and jobs to do, and instead, indulge with me in these 8 minutes of beauty. I wasn’t kidding about those tissues; get them now.

On Tuesday, The Walt Disney Company debuted A Disney Holiday Short: The Boy & The Octopus in collaboration with Academy Award® winner Taika Waititi.

The short follows the journey of a child who discovers that a curious octopus has attached to his head during a seaside vacation. After returning home, the boy forms a true friendship with the sea creature by introducing his new companion to his life on land — harnessing the power of the Force with his Jedi lightsaber, playing with his Buzz Lightyear action figure, and imagining Santa Claus’ route around the world with the map on his wall — before taking the lovable octopus out into the world to experience the joy of the holidays, hidden under his Mickey Mouse beanie.
