Did You Know You Can Send Mail from Disneyland?

You’re strolling down Main Street, U.S.A., eyes on Sleeping Beauty Castle (little pinkie) as head to your first attraction or plan ahead for your next Disneyland snack. But as you walk, did you know you’re passing a little-known Disney detail hidden in plain sight? Real, operational mailboxes are mounted on lampposts and walls throughout Disneyland, each one themed to match the land it’s in.

Next time you’re visiting Disneyland, take a moment to see how many mailboxes you can spot! As they blend into each land’s surroundings, they add yet another layer of charm and functionality. Disneyland’s mailboxes date back to the 1950s, around the park’s opening timeframe.

These mailboxes actually open for you to drop your mail into, before your mail is collected by Cast Members and then taken to the Anaheim post office.

From the front gates, down Main Street U.S.A., and throughout five more lands – there are over a dozen mailboxes sprinkled around Disneyland. A few more can also be found over at Disney California Adventure.

There’s one mailbox located in ToonTown you’d think you could also drop mail into, but it’s strictly an interactive prop (that you should definitely pull to open):

Wish You Were Here!

It’s nice to take a break during the park’s busy afternoon, write out some quick notes to family and friends back home, and drop them in the mail — straight from Disneyland! Some like to send more significant pieces of mail from the happiest place on earth, such as Christmas cards, wedding invitations or baby announcements. Switch it up from the typical text message or email; you can get pretty creative with a Polaroid or Instax instant camera and some stationary!

Unfortunately, there is no special postmark for mail picked up from these mailboxes; it’ll typically be stamped with a postmark Anaheim or Santa Ana.

You can usually find a small selection of postcards for sale inside gift shops around Disneyland Resort, or you can bring your own.

Or… Wear the Mailbox!

If you’re looking for a niche theme park accessory, Park Candy has even created some backpacks honoring this adorable Disneyland detail:
