Guests at Disneyland park can meet The Fantastic Four for a limited time, and joining the family for the first time is their beloved and iconic robot, H.E.R.B.I.E.
I suppose you could say that Tomorrowland just got a little more fantastic, no?
H.E.R.B.I.E., whose name stands for Humanoid Experimental Robot B-type Integrated Electronics, was designed by Reed Richards, famously known as Mister Fantastic, one of the founding members of the Fantastic Four. This advanced robot serves as a high-tech companion and assistant to the superhero team, equipped with various functionalities that range from providing technical support to aiding in combat situations. H.E.R.B.I.E. showcases Reed’s genius intellect and his commitment to utilizing technology for the greater good, embodying the spirit of innovation and teamwork that defines the Fantastic Four’s adventures in the Marvel Universe.
Created to support the team in tasks ranging from scientific research to everyday household duties, this endearing assistant has quickly gained popularity.
Designed and built by Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development, the charming robotic companion is situated near the family’s gathering spot in Tomorrowland. While not helping Reed Richards with current research efforts, H.E.R.B.I.E. cheerfully welcomes guests and poses for photos as he carries out his duties.
When you meet H.E.R.B.I.E. at Disneyland, you might notice that he moves and balances on an eight-inch sphere. He moves so smoothly due to his round base, which enables him to turn, constantly adjust his angle, and roll in any direction with remarkable accuracy.
H.E.R.B.I.E.’s character is highlighted by his distinctive and expressive face, which features tape reels as his eyes and capstans for his mouth. Matthew Wood, the voice actor for H.E.R.B.I.E., worked with Imagineers to record fresh phrases and conversation prompts (including a rendition of Happy Birthday!) to assist H.E.R.B.I.E. in getting ready for his journey to Tomorrowland and all the guests he will encounter during his stay.
