Disney’s Moana film changes title in Italy

A simple Google search in Italy proves that Moana may have not been the best title for a Disney film. According to variety.com, this is due to the fact that it shares the name with an Italian porn star Moana Pozzi. This has prompted Disney to change the name of the film in Italy to Oceania.

Davide Romani, the head of theatrical marketing in Italy, was quoted as saying Disney was “thinking about this issue.” Disney has since released movie posters with the name Oceania, but they have not commented anymore on the issue.

This isn’t the only deviation from the Moana title in Europe. For example in France and Spain the title is Vaiana. This is due to the fact that “Moana” is a registered brand in Spain.

Disney’s Moana will be released in the US on November 23rd, 2016.
