Catch a Rare Sighting Of the Disney Merch Fail

Hey, friends! We usually meet here to share new Disney merchandise that makes us swoon and reach for our wallets. But every once in a while, something pops up that makes us pause, tilt our heads, and wonder if maybe, just maybe, someone at Disney’s merch design table was having a little too much fun. Today is one of those days, and the culprit is the brand-new Hei Hei Plush Hat for Adults.

If you’ve been with us for a while, you might remember our collective confusion over Mix Its, those tiny plush helmets that could be swapped around between characters for reasons still unknown to humankind. That was strange enough, but apparently, the lukewarm response wasn’t enough to put this concept to bed. Instead, the idea has grown, literally, into giant, wearable plush hats for adults. Yes, that’s right. You can now don your very own oversized plush poultry head for the low, low price of around $40.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I adore Hei Hei. He’s chaotic, he’s clueless, and he’s adorable in a way only a Disney sidekick can be. But when it comes to practical park style, this plush spectacle leaves me scratching my head. Are you really saving Loungefly space to carry this into Disneyland? Does anyone see themselves commuting to work in it as part of a subtle Disney Bound, explaining to coworkers that today’s look is “chicken chic”? I just can’t picture it. Even as a Disney Bounding accessory in the parks, it feels like a stretch, unless you’re bounding as a confused guest who took a wrong turn at the Emporium. As a side note, can you imagine how hot it would be in that thing in the late summer Orlando heat?

That said, I’ll admit, part of me wants to cheer for the sheer audacity of it. This hat is unapologetically silly, over-the-top, and absolutely guaranteed to turn heads. If your idea of fun is leaning into that chaos, then this Hei Hei plush hat might just be your new signature look. But for most of us, it’s a merch miss that lands firmly in the ‘what were they thinking?’ category, destined to live forever as a quirky footnote in Disney’s long history of baffling products that can be found in the long-term sale section.

What do you think? Hit or miss?
