There’s so much planning that goes into a Walt Disney World Vacation and there’s such a relief when you make it into those magical “purple gates” and onto Disney property. You may have packed everything, nailed your Lightning Lane reservations, scored the best dining reservations, and yet accidents and illness can still happen. Maybe your little one is running a high fever, you trip and fall, or experience chest pain, you want to know where to go both quickly and to receive quality care. I had to learn this for myself the hard way, but the Advent Health ER at Flamingo Crossings is THE place to go!

Located literally only 1 mile from Disney property, this ER is your closest option for care while at Disney World. Not only is it the most convenient, but it has to be one of the nicest hospital experiences with plenty of Disney touches. You’re reminded of Disney as soon as you enter the ER with iridescent fish swimming above you, and familiar characters swimming along the walls. In fact, the entire urgent care is themed to Finding Nemo and Finding Dory.

The hospital lobby is specifically themed to Finding Dory and when you stop to think about it, it makes perfect sense! Much of the movie takes place at the Marine Life Institute where the motto is “… rescue, rehabilitation, release” (of course voiced by THE Sigourney Weaver). Featured on the walls are characters like Bailey the beluga whale, recovering from a head injury and Destiny the near-sighted whale shark.

Once you are taken back for treatment, the theming and amenities continue. Each patient is treated in a private room with seating, a large TV (with the Disney Channel), and the option to change the color of the room, and play soothing background sounds all from an in-room iPad. Of course, you’ll notice bubbles on the walls because we are still swimming underwater with Nemo and friends.

Even though I was the one being treated, the team at Advent Health made sure to give my three-year-old special attention to put him at ease. In addition to offering him snacks, including ice cream, they gave him three Disney books to take home and enjoy! How nice, right?? Seeing my son light up when he received these books instantly lifted my spirits and made me feel seen and taken care of.

My visit to the Advent Health ER included a CT scan of my broken ankle and just when I thought it couldn’t get better… it did. On the ceiling of the CT room, there is an interactive ceiling that gives the feeling of being underwater. The best part? Ariel and Flounder, Moana in her boat and Moana’s Gramma Tala, plus Dory and friends all swim overhead. The nurse encouraged my son to come into the room before the procedure so he could see it too! Again, not just caring for me but also my family.

There’s no doubt the attention to detail and Disney touches are pretty incredible but I have to say this is also some of the best care I’ve ever received. Even as a local who has visited other hospitals and urgent cares near Disney World, the experience was seamless and the care was excellent. I was taken back to a private room immediately, never had to wait for medication, was given regular updates, and the team went above and beyond in such a warm and genuine way.

The other good news for families who might be visiting the Advent Health ER with multiple people, there are plenty of offerings in the Flamingo Crossings area. This is also where the new Disney College Program housing is located and all of these options are within walking distance with safe sidewalks and crosswalks.

Right across the street from the ER is a Starbucks and there is even a second Starbucks nearby. If you’re Dunkin’ coffee drinker, Flamingo Crossings has one too. There is also a Walgreens in case you need to pick up medications and a Target for other essentials (or retail therapy). You can find restaurants like PDQ, Domino’s, Firehouse Subs, Chipotle, and even a Skyline Chili for all you Ohio visitors!

While ending up in the ER on a Disney vacation is a worst-case scenario, it really is great peace of mind to have an extremely nice option so close. To quote Dory, “Just keep swimming,” and you’ll be back at Disney World before you know it!
