Are These a Fun or Frustrating Find in Walt Disney World?

The Walt Disney World theme parks have some great golden statues that bring a smile to your face. We realized that you needed a Magic Band+ to experience them.

They are supposed to activate when you step near them. The instructions in your My Disney Experience app say:

When you approach one of the golden sculptures, your MagicBand+ will vibrate, and its lights will spin and glow white. Then stand in front of the Disney character in the golden sculpture you located. While wearing your MagicBand+, move your hand in a circular gesture until your MagicBand+ vibrates and turns multiple colors—letting you know you have collected that character virtually!

Sounds easy, doesn’t it? We were excited to try and see these special effects. The first one I tried was Figment in EPCOT. Can I say that it was frustrating? We tried big circles; we tried making little circles. Another family approached and tried as well and then gave up.

We tried the golden sculptures in Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom with the same luck. What is your secret for getting them to work?
