For only $14.99, you (or your child) can take home a piece of Super Hero-shaped foam to, brace yourself, pretend lick like ice cream? Yes, it’s a toy you can’t really play with and a food item you can’t actually eat, wrapped up in a mystery pack where you probably won’t even get the one you wanted. It’s the perfect storm of impracticality, confusion, and disappointment. And while I try to find the charm in most Disney releases, this one is firmly in the “miss” category. There’s whimsical, and then there’s whatever this is.
The Merch Miss List has had some unforgettable honorees over time, and this new addition joins an illustrious lineup. Past recipients include Disney’s Mix Itz, the baffling plush collection featuring mix-and-match helmets (for reasons still unknown), as well as the giant plush hats that somehow became the headwear of choice in the 100-degree Florida heat earlier this year. I’m still recovering from the sight of guests parading through Magic Kingdom under what looked like oversized stuffed animals. I was speechless then, and I might be again now.
If you’ve been on the hunt for a foam dessert you can’t eat, or a superhero head on a stick, congratulations, your time has come. For everyone else, this one’s a miss.
