Disney Golf has added a new touch of character to one of its most challenging stretches, unveiling a brand-new Grumpy statue at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course at Walt Disney World.
The six-foot-tall statue now stands at the tee box of hole No. 14, marking the start of a demanding four-hole sequence known as “Grumpy’s Gauntlet.” This section of the course includes holes 14 through 17 and is designed to test even experienced golfers with a tough, fast-paced finish on the back nine. The new statue marks the first of four recently redesigned holes along the back nine at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.
The new statue of Grumpy is sitting up on a rock, boasting his classic scowl, and breaking his golf club in two. They even included his “trouble a-brewin” line, too. It’s just what Disney fans expect from him, and it totally works, even out on the golf course.
The statue itself is made from Carrara marble, and Imagineering used one of those AI carving machines to pull it off – it’s kind of wild when you think about it. Old-school character, high-tech process. Take a look at this video to see the process. Golfers are absolutely going to stop and take pictures with this.
This addition is part of a broader refresh of the Magnolia course, which has a long history at Walt Disney World and has hosted some of golf’s biggest names over the years. The updated holes add a bit more personality to the experience while still keeping the challenge front and center.
Guests can also find “Grumpy’s Gauntlet” merchandise in the Magnolia pro shop, including themed apparel and golf accessories tied to the new section of the course.
While Disney’s theme parks tend to get most of the attention, projects like this are a reminder that storytelling shows up in just about every corner of Walt Disney World, even on the fairways.
