Anticipated Cost Cuts Could Mean Layoffs for Disney-ABC Television Group

As Disney’s fiscal year-end approaches, several online sources including the Wall Street Journal, are reporting that Disney is looking to cut up to 10% in their costs at their ABC Television Group division. Those affected could include the ABC broadcast network, ABC Studios, ABC News, and local stations, with Disney Channel and Freeform possibly seeing job cuts as well. Reports say that up to 300 layoffs could occur and that “Disney/ABC boss Ben Sherwood will likely present a plan to Disney CEO Bob Iger in the coming weeks.”

We’re not seeing a specific timeframe of when the layoffs may start rolling in, but they could start as early as the end of September. Deadline reports that “reductions would come through attrition, open headcount and people being moved out of current jobs.”
